Red Sky at Morning A Novel Perennial Classics Richard Bradford Books
This book is a classic. It's one you can't put down till you finish reading it. I have been reading it since I was a teenager, back in the '70's. I regularly have to replace my copies. I always find myself wishing I could find a "Corazon Sagrado" to live in. As they say in the book, it's a place to hide. I don't think that place exists anymore, but this book will take you there temporarily. It's a coming of age book with a different twist. It's one year in the life of a teenage boy facing challenges that most kids don't have to worry about. Or maybe they do. At any rate, Joshua M. Arnold rises to the occasion. The book is humorous, but very insightful. A classic.Tags : Amazon.com: Red Sky at Morning: A Novel (Perennial Classics) (9780060931902): Richard Bradford: Books,Richard Bradford,Red Sky at Morning: A Novel (Perennial Classics),Harper Perennial Modern Classics,0060931906,Historical,War & Military,Reading Group Guide,Bildungsromans,FICTION Classics,FICTION Coming of Age,FICTION Historical General,FICTION Historical World War II,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,FICTION War & Military,Fiction,Fiction - Espionage Thriller,Fiction-Coming of Age,FictionThrillers - General,GENERAL,General Adult,Historical - General,LiteratureClassics,Literature: Classics,New Mexico,New Mexico;Fiction.,POPULAR AMERICAN FICTION,Thrillers - General,Thrillers - Suspense,United States,War stories,World War, 1939-1945,World War, 1939-1945 - New Mexico - Fiction,World War, 1939-1945;New Mexico;Fiction.,Young men,Young men - Fiction,Young men;Fiction.,Fiction Romance Contemporary,Fiction Romance General,Thrillers - Espionage,Thrillers - General,Thrillers - Suspense,Fiction - Espionage Thriller,Bildungsromane,New Mexico,War stories,World War, 1939-1945,Young men,Popular American Fiction,Fiction,Literature: Classics
Red Sky at Morning A Novel Perennial Classics Richard Bradford Books Reviews
This story continues to entertain after being read and reread.
Wonderful book. Had to re-read it 50 years after the first time. Just as good a half-century later.
I recently reread it after first reading it back in the seventies. I have since then recommended it to many friends as one of my favorite books.
I read this book years ago and enjoyed it again. It has such an authentic feel, especially if you have any knowledge of New Mexico. Clever, funny, sad, very compelling.
I've been reading this book since high school when my dad introduced me to it, and I still read it to this day, decades later.
I first read this book when it came out years ago, and it is one of the rare novels both my husband and I enjoyed. Having lost or given away my first copy, I bought it again to give to my 16 year old grandson whom I’m encouraging to read. it’ captures the imagination and judgments of an adolescent boy transported to a different world and culture while his father serves in WWII. It captures the New Mexico setting with humor and sympathy.
This is such a wonderful “coming of age” novel. I read it when I was in my 20’s, and thought it was perfect. I read it again a few decades later, and there are some darker angles that I wasn’t initially aware of. The protagonist’s mother is portrayed as an irresponsible, lazy lush. I had a little more sympathy for her this time. Dad and protagonist are tight which cuts Mama out of the deal. Then Dad, in my view, does a very selfish act. But if I say anymore, this will be a spoiler.
