I love this read. This is another one of my favorites by Ms. Amanda Quick. It starts with an innocent heroine seeking the help of the hero to find out what happened to her "Lancelot". The heroine knows the hero because he almost ran off with her sister before her family caught them and forced him to leave the country. The story is epic and wonderful read. It is one of my favorite by Ms. Quick. I highly recommend it. A must read for any historical romance readers.

You wonder how can she trust this hero? Heroine is a romantic that lives her life dreaming of the medieval times when white knights saved the day. She found it romantic that the hero was going to help her sister escape her arranged marriage, which we later find out was not because the sister did not want to marry her husband but she was scared. So the hero decides to help the heroine, but does it because of two things that are dueling within him: he wants revenge on the family and he is attracted to the heroine.

The family of the heroine just don't know how to help her. She is impulsive and naïve. She wants to see the good in everything that she fails to see the dangers. Well as hero falls more and more for the heroine he realizes he can't allow her to put herself in danger and after things come to head in a scene when he has to literally save her from being kidnapped by gold digger suitor he decides he is going to marry her.

Well the family is skeptical but realize that they can't do anything about it. Hero is now rich and respected. They can't do away with him as they did before. The family is also just plain tired of trying to keep heroine safe. They realize hero has already been doing it for awhile and trust him to take care of her. Believe the turning point for the family came about after family explained they had him investigated and are sure he is not just out for heroine's money.

This book is not called Reckless for nothing. Heroine decides she is not going to submit to anybody and does her own escape. Hero tracks her down and puts a ring on it. Heroine already had regrets and was going back anyway so she was open to marrying the hero by time he caught up with her. Unfortunately the marriage had many road blocks to their HEA. They still had a mystery to solve, someone was trying to kill the heroine, the man the heroine used to call her " Lancelot" was also trying to steal her away from the hero for his own means, and the H/h had to work out their internal insecurities to be able to acknowledged each other's love.

I really enjoyed this read. I loved the kidnapping scene that has heroine taken to brothel. That is when things really pick up and the hero is able to accept the love the heroine has had for him. Yes, the heroine was a day dreamer and refused to believe the hero's arch enemy was also the same person she called her "Lancelot". However, it is clear she was not attracted to him but just the idea of him playing a mythical character she had some type obsession with. The true "Lancelot" was the hero and in reality she picked him every time to keep her safe, which included her heart.

I would recommend this read. It was really well written and type of books I miss from the author. I bought it to re read.

Reckless A Novel Amanda Quick 9780553293159 Books Reviews

Speedy pace, snappy dialogue, mystery, likable hero and heroine, ratty villain, excitement ~ it had my heart racing a time or two, and it's all wrapped in a sweet, satisfying romance. Can't give it 5 stars, but it's a solid 4+ stars.

Phoebe is a romantic, utterly naive, trusting...therefore reckless, and completely immersed in all things medieval, particularly books and manuscripts of the period. But now she's on a 'quest' to find the man who murdered her 'Lancelot'. Naturally, she wants to enlist the help of Gabriel who has always been her 'white knight'. Gabriel is having none of it.

Gabriel shares Phoebe's love for the medieval but he's far from being a romantic. He's a cynic with revenge on his mind...against Phoebe's family! Eight years earlier, they had ruined him financially and he had spent those years in the South Seas recouping his fortune. Now he's back in England and he's mad. Phoebe has no idea that her knight is no longer chivalrous but vengeful.

I know these things always end with an HEA, but I couldn't imagine how Phoebe could turn Gabriel around. And then 'Lancelot' returns from the dead and things really got sticky.

This was vastly entertaining, interesting and exciting.

Enjoy your reading! )
The book started off slow and the premise did not catch my interest at first. It took me halfway through it to get into it. The characters should have been more fleshed out and not so one sided. It caught my interest at the end and I began to root for the characters and of course they all lived happily ever after. Not a bad read for the beach. No thinking involved.
I know what to expect from an Amanda Quick book. The heroine is always smart, brave, and a little 'different' from her contemporaries. The hero is brave, loyal, stubborn, and maybe a bit dense at times. But, even though her main characters always embody these characteristics, Quick always manages to make them unique. The characters, along with her snappy dialogue and sly humor, make each book an enjoyable escape from reality. This book ranks as one of my favorites because I truly loved the heroine. Phoebe is the daughter of an Earl. She is the only one in her family who is not mathematically gifted. Her passion is Medieval manuscripts. Nearing age 25, her family is desperate to find her a husband, but she prefers to wait for true love. And, she is also consumed with guilt because she feels she was responsible for the death of a former suitor she calls Lancelot. To find his killer, she enlists the help of Gabriel, a man who wants revenge on her family for their ill-treatment of him years ago. I read this book in one sitting and am sure that, like many of her books, I will be reading it again. It's that good.

Sexual situations may offend some readers.
